The Unica River is formed at the confluence of two karst rivers, the Pivka, which flows from the Planina Cave, and the Malenščica, a calmer and slower river, which also winds through the karst fields. Unica then winds its way through the Planina Field, where it makes most of its way until it finally disappears in the sinkholes below Grčarevec.
It is the most famous karst river, known beyond Slovenia’s borders because of its beautiful surroundings and rich riverbed ecosystem.
Before you go exploring by a canoe, your guide will wait for you at the Ravbar tower in Planina, where together you will see the dry parts of our karst beauty, Planina Cave. After about an hour of exploring the cave world, you go on a canoe trip along the Unica River with your guide. The guide will give you all the necessary canoeing equipment.
The first part of the Unica River is a bit faster, then the river slows down and meanders through the Planina Field, where we can admire the masterpieces of nature and the numerous animal and plant species of this karst field.
During the ride, we make a stop for a snack from the backpack. We finish the boating adventure at the village of Jakovica. We then go to Planina on foot. During the walk, we admire the rich architectural heritage of Notranjska. The trip is possible from April to October.
