Postojna Cave was discovered long ago, in 1818 by a local, cave guide Luka Čeč. Today, Postojna Cave is the most visited European cave and at the same time the most visited tourist sight in Slovenia. To date, it has been viewed by more than 40 million enthusiastic visitors from all over the world. With its 24km of tunnels, galleries, and magnificent halls, it is one of the most diverse cave systems in the world.

During your visit, you will be able to see the most beautiful stalagmite in the Postojna Cave, and you will also be able to see for yourself if the existence of a baby dragon – the olm, is real. One of the special features of the cave is that it is the only cave in the world with a double-track railway.

Postojna Cave is open every day of the year, even on holidays. The tour, which includes a train ride and a walk through undemanding terrain, takes an hour and a half. Each visit is accompanied by guides who present the beauty of the cave to visitors in more detail in Slovenian, Italian, English or German. Audio guides are also available in 17 languages. The visit is suitable for everyone, including families with small children and those with impaired mobility. The temperature in the cave is constant throughout the year (10°C), so dress warmly and wear sports shoes.

Postojna Cave boasts exceptional underground halls. In one of them, during the Christmas season, they hold the largest living nativity scene in the underground world. More than 500 performers create a Christmas show among the dripstones!

In the Postojna Cave Park, in addition to the world-famous cave, you can also see the EXPO Postojna Cave Karst Exhibition and the Proteus Cave with the Vivarium. In any case, you should not miss a visit to two exceptional caves – Pivka and Black Cave. For explorers at heart, there will be suitable adrenaline or adventure tours and treks through the caves.

In addition to the unique ambience, you will certainly be impressed by the many adventures that await you at every step of the Postojna Cave Park – a walk across one of the bridges, a snack and a break by the river, unique souvenirs and excellent culinary adventures right at the entrance to the Postojna Cave. There are many reasons to visit.
